THE ESTABLISHMENT OF ASIA AFRICA INTERNATIONAL MEDIATION AND ARBITRATION CHAMBER

It is a tremendous honor for the Indonesia Dispute Board (IDB/DSI) to co-host and lead the Asia-Africa International Alternative Dispute Resolution Forum 2025. This forum embodies our shared vision to advance alternative dispute resolution (ADR) systems across the world’s two fastest-growing continents.

We extend our deepest appreciation to Dirgantara University of Marshal Suryadarma (UNSURYA) for providing the venue and fully supporting the implementation of this forum in Jakarta, Indonesia. This collaboration—between IDB and UNSURYA, along with Cambodian Center for Mediation (CCM), Tanzania Institute of Arbitrators (TIArb), Asian International Dispute Resolution Association (AIDRA) and India International Arbitration Center (IIAC) created a vital platform showcasing Asian and African countries, whose collaborative approaches and experiences can shape the future of ADR in the region and internationally.

As we know, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a key element of a sound justice system in any country. However, ADR requires a specific regulatory framework to ensure its processes are implemented properly based on the principles of transparency, credibility, and fair competition. Without qualified mediators/arbitrators, and especially without applicable procedural laws for mediation and arbitration, it is difficult for ADR stakeholders, particularly those in the private sector, to provide qualified services.

Therefore, we have adopted the fundamental theme: “Shaping the Future of ADR in Asia-Africa: The Collaborative Approach.” This theme emphasizes that collaboration and active engagement are the foundation for building a thriving ADR professionalism. It is a call for theorists and practitioners to strengthen their commitment, solidarity, and full support in improving the dispute resolution sector.

The Asia Africa International ADR Forum may contribute in achieving these strategic objectives:

1. Provide a platform for ADR professionals, academics, and organizations to exchange knowledge and experience, and identify best ADR practices.
2. Support and build ADR capacity in the Asia and Africa region, including raising awareness of the importance of ADR practices in business, communities, and other aspects of life.
3. Promote commitment to developing Good Dispute Resolution Governance and Dispute Resolution Law Reform, which ensure transparency, credibility, and fairness.

at the end of the event, participants of the Asia Africa International Alternative Dispute Resolution Forum 2025 have considered and recommended to establish an Asia Africa International Mediation and Arbitration Chamber to unite the Asian and African Mediators and Arbitrators cross-border dispute resolution platform for commercial and non-commercial disputes across Asian and African countries.

The chamber will work closely with all mediation and arbitration institution across the Asian and African countries and governments to strengthen the capacities of Mediators and Arbitrators in Asian and African countries.

The chamber is also will administer disputes through Mediation and Arbitration procedures and will publish list of Mediators and Arbitrators across the Asian and African countries.
